On October 31, the Kyoto Institute of Philosophy held a seminar for special supporting members at the Imperial Hotel in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Professor Markus Gabriel of the University of Bonn, Germany, who serves as the institute's senior global advisor, and the heads of member companies exchanged opinions on Gabriel's theory of "Ethical Capitalism" and the concept of the "Multilayered Society of Values" advocated by the institute.

This seminar was a premier event limited to special supporting members, and it began with an opening speech by Professor Gabriel. Gabriel cited hunger, poverty, gender inequality, and racism, and stated that if companies can present solutions to these issues from the perspective of "moral good," they will be able to make profits. He then emphasized that the role of the institute is to "integrate the world of philosophy with the world of business" and "create new forms of cooperation across disciplines."

After the lecture, 12 people, including Professor Yasuo Deguchi of Kyoto University, and Jun Sawada, Chairman of NTT, who serve as the Co-chairpersons of the institute, exchanged opinions with Gabriel. In response to Gabriel's theory, some of them asked him detailed questions about how to balance capitalism and ethics. In addition, the discussion covered topics such as the challenges to achieving a "Multilayered Society of Values," the state of media in the new era, and how to respond to the rapid proliferation of AI.

The institute offers various benefits to supporting members who support the activities, depending on the membership category. For more information, please visit "Supporting Members" on our website.
